Choix specialises in crepes.

Choix Creperie Café Bar is a unique cafe located in Melbourne's central city district. The food is great. The coffee's good. The music selection is random and the staff full of character. It's the sort of place you ought to try at least once and it may just become a favourite.

What do they offer?

As explained on their website, Choix is a unique French Moroccan style cafe that specialises in delicious sweet and savory crepes. It offers both breakfast and lunch and is open late Thursday and Friday. Aside from crepes they offer toast for breakfast, and baguettes and sandwiches for lunch. There is also a specials board that generally advertises a soup of the day.

In terms of drinks, they have the usual hot and cold beverages. They are also licensed to sell beer and wine. What stands out is they have the best hot chocolate in Melbourne.

Where is Choix?

It's a little café that is tucked away in Melbourne's Liberty Lane and close to Southern Cross train station. You travel east along Collins Street, heading away from Spencer St and on your left you will find Liberty Lane. Turn left into the lane and not too far along you will find the café on your left hand side. If you're catching a taxi, ask to be taken to 620 Collins St and you should be let out near to the lane's entrance.

Accessible features at Choix

The café has reasonable accessibility features including a step-free level entrance. As it is a small café, spaces for wheelchairs can be somewhat limited. The menu is available on the café's website allowing for those who have difficulty reading standard menus to preview it before visiting. However Choix's staff is always more than willing to go through the menu when you arrive. The people who work there are cheerful, helpful and have a great sense of humour.

For a person with a vision impairment, it is easy to locate the entrance, counter and seating. The counter is on the left hand side as you enter with seating to the right. While the venue can get busy at peak times, there is limited seating so the noise level remains reasonable.

Pros and cons

The two best features of the Choix café are its food and staff. Meals are delicious and reasonably priced with most costing less than $12. The service is excellent and friendly. Its hours of opening and location make it a good choice for those working in, or visiting the city.

On the downside, the café is so popular that it can be difficult to secure seating in busy times. The café does not have toilet facilities. And it is also important to keep in mind payment is cash only and therefore you need to come prepared.

Choix is a great littlecafé with unique food and lots of character.
