You can help the Victorian government to do a better job for people with a disability. The government wants to make sure the Victorian State Disability Plan is on the right track and making the changes that matter to people with a disability. The plan is the ideas the government has to improve the lives of people with a disability. The government is asking people with a disability who are over 18 and living in Victoria to answer some questions. The questions will take between five and 15 minutes to do. The questions will be available for you to answer until 29 May 2015.
Outlining the Victorian Government's approach to reducing the barriers faced by people with a disability.
The Victorian state disability plan 2013-2016 outlines the Victorian Government's approach to reducing the barriers faced by people with a disability to accessing education, employment and other services within the community. Our plan is about improving public spaces, planning, transport and the justice system, to make Victoria a welcoming and accessible place, not just for people with a disability, but for all Victorians.
The current system is not delivering the care and support Australians expect
The Australian Government will start work immediately to build towards a national disability insurance scheme. It will work with Australian states and territories on the scheme. The Productivity Commission has released its final report into the disability care and support system. The commission recommended the scheme be created. A scheme would provide support to all Australians who acquire a significant disability. The commission also recommended a national injury insurance scheme. But agreement on the schemes has not yet been reached. The commission believes it will take at least seven years to transform disability services.
